Brea, California, December 20, 2010 – If you spend long on our website, or if you speak with one of our employees, you will encounter the phrase “Joy in Investing.” We believe that matching values and mission with our investment dollars can be a joyful experience, and we want our clients to experience that joy. But a greater joy is available – the joy of knowing the Savior who came to us as a child, lived among us, healed us, and gave His very life for us that we might know fully the love of God.

In the United States, as a people, we enjoy material prosperity beyond the dreams of most of the people of this world. For the most part our bellies are full, our houses are warm, and our Christmas trees bulge with gifts. Yet we know from experience that Christmas can be the most depressing time for many people. This Christmas season can, if we allow it, become a time of stress, of hurried sweeps through family obligations, even of disappointment.

On the other hand, it could be a time of deep reflection and joy in our Savior. The prophet Isaiah spoke of the darkest days of an oppressed people being illumined by an Anointed One — by Jesus:

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.

In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations,

by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

The people walking in darkness

have seen a great light;

on those living in the land of deep darkness

a light has dawned….

The story of Christmas does not stop at the manger, with the shepherds and wise men, and the cute little baby in Bethlehem. The story of Christmas goes on to a hill outside Jerusalem, where Jesus was nailed to cross. Having lived a sinless life, he died to bear the punishment for our sins, so that those who believe in Him would not have to bear it. It was the perfect expression of love for a human race that did not deserve it. As the Apostle Paul wrote:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

This Christmas, whatever trouble, whatever stress, and whatever long night you may be experiencing, today you can find peace in Jesus. Today, if you will accept Him – the child King of Bethlehem — he can be born in your life again, and you can be born again in Him!

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We wish for you a very merry Christmas, and a wonderful new year!
